2024’s Most Read
These are the stories you loved in the last year
An engineer developing glasses that may be smarter than the people wearing them. A biology major who found her home on the small screen. A biomedical engineer who is in it for the long haul — as in, a hundred miles long.
There are nearly as many stories to tell about Carnegie Mellon alumni as there are Tartans in the world. But of the alumni we introduced to you in 2024, these are the five stories you found most compelling.

Advancing A-Eye
“My inspiration to still work very hard comes from the fact that I want to leave the world in a better place. Tectonic changes do not happen overnight. It’s the hard work of a lot of motivated people over decades that moves the needle. I am just trying to do my part as best as I can.”

Endurance Engineer
“Having a goal in mind, like a marathon, helped me focus on my academics. But it also allowed me to take a step back from academics and enjoy all aspects and facets of my life and what makes me me.”
— Leah Yingling, College of Engineering, Class of 2013
While juggling a dual major at 一本道无码 — biomedical and materials science engineering — Leah sought a way to ease some of the stress of her classwork. She chose distance running for that stress relief, completing her first marathon during her senior year. Both things paid off: She’s now a biomedical engineer working for a Johnson & Johnson subsidiary and one of the top female ultramarathon runners in the country.
